Issue 15: Is title different from appellation?

ID:
15
Starting Date:
2001-07-05
Working Group:
1
Status:
Done
Closing Date:

Background:

Is there any characteristic feature of the character string that represents title, which makes it different from appellations in general? The idea would be, that titles can be reasonably translated, but names in general not. Therefore they convey more meaning than just a reference. Is that true, and is that enough to justify the existence of a Title entity?

Current Proposal:

It is enough. The library community has well-defined notions of what a title is.

Outcome:

Issue closed. There is a need to distinguish between these. A new issue needs to be added to draft guidance for museums etc. to distinguish between titles and other appellations. Working Group 4. Issue 71
